What is ATL Social Innovation JAM?

April 5th – 7th, 2019

Design thinking, or human centered design, is a powerful tool we can use to change the world. Over 48 hours, students, nonprofit leaders, designers, advocates, policy influencers, changemakers, and entrepreneurs will “jam” to innovate, collaborate, and create for social change. Together, we will learn and implement design thinking tools to uncover new ways to achieve 3 of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals in our home, Atlanta.

End hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

Then this event is for you! We’ll provide you with the methods and tools you’ll need to begin the process of tackling the design challenge.

What is the outcome of the JAM?

The goal of this event is to innovate, collaborate, and  create for social change. You’ll come away from the event with new connections, a better understanding of design thinking, and the foundations for expanding your work beyond the weekend. We know that powerful solutions take time, and we recognize that 48 hours is very short! As such, the goal of this event is not to create ready-to-launch solutions, but to begin prototyping future possibilities. Perhaps this will inspire you to stay connected with your team and continue this work, perhaps not. But, we’re certain you’ll leave feeling inspired.

How much does it cost to attend?

In an effort to make this event accessible to anyone who may want to join, we’re using a “pay what you can” structure for registration. Suggested donation is $20, but please contribute whatever you can afford. 100% of the money donated will go to covering the costs of the food and drinks you will enjoy during the event. PS: the planning committee is putting on this event out of the goodness of their hearts, and are not getting paid, not even a penny.
